…which, frankly, surprised the hell out of me.
I didn’t post the Batman Vs Superman:Dawn Of Justice trailer because, well, I think it looks terrible. Zack Snyder has incredible technical chops, but in service to storytelling sensibilities that make me want to break things. David Ayer, on the other hand, may have a hit and miss track record, but I dig his voice, and I think it’s a good match for Suicide Squad as a property.
For the uninitiated, Suicide Squad is basically The Dirty Dozen in the DC Universe: a bunch of villains press-ganged into undertaking dangerous missions for the US government. The John Ostrander run, which kicked off in the mid ’80s, is the definitive take on the concept, but there have been several later attempts of varying, often lesser, degrees of success.
It’s an interesting way to expand a cinematic universe, that’s for sure, and I’m curious as to who’s coming home in body bags (my money’s on Slipknot and El Diablo buying the farm). Jared Leto’s Joker will continue to ruffle feathers, of course, but hell, at least it’s different. Take a look for yourself:
