I’m getting most of this stuff from Badass Digest, for the record – a site you should be following with religious fervour.
Well, first of all, there was this:
Which is a perfect opening shot for a marketing campaign, isn’t it? Leaves a lot of people asking, “What the hell is a kaiju?” Leaves others – fanboys and geeks for the most part, myself included – rubbing their hands in glee.
Then we got this:
…and that just plain gave me goosebumps. I am ridiculously excited for this flick. I’m talking Christmas-morning-tears-of-giddy-excitement keen.
Further, over at Wired, we’ve got out first look at a Jaeger – the giant robots used to fight the kaiju.
Check it out:
Note the human figure for size comparison. Jesus.
For a closer look, click through here. You’ll also notice, down the bottom of the Wired page, a link to the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. Click through, and you’ll see a countdown to… something. Fourteen days. What happens then? Well, a trailer, obviously, but let’s try not to break character here.
If you don’t already know, Pacific Rim is the giant robots vis giant monsters movie coming in April from director Guillermo Del Toro. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Alba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be freakin’ awesome.
Before we go, it’s worth noting that all this stuff hit within about an hour. It’s shaping up to be a pretty good day. More updates as they unfold, assuming I don’t miss out on all the cool stuff while I’m in the Les Miserables screening.
